NSS of North Texas is proud to co-sponsor of the biggest celebration of space exploration in Texas:

Moon Day 2016

Moon Day is NSSNT’s annual showpiece event for the Frontiers of Flight Museum.

This event is growing from a celebration of space exploration into a space-themed, STEM-focused event, riding on the wave of renewed interest in encouraging our youth to pursue the difficult studies that have been the foundation of this nation’s economic prosperity. In creating and shepherding this event, NSS of North Texas is actively engaging its mandate of increasing knowledge and awareness of the importance of space activities in our local community. (Because it is a grass-roots organized event, NASA’s funding issues have no bearing whatsoever on our ability to stage a space event.)

Much thanks goes to our past President, Ken Moon Day is also one of the biggest fundraising days for NSS of North Texas for their Science Fair Scholarship. Over the last four years, NSS-NT has donated over $1000 in scholarships to students with space projects at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair. All of these funds were raised with raffles in the local community.

In addition to our exhibit tables, we and other exhibitors offer a number of family-friendly classes in the Moon Academy program, including rocket building, Moon Rock disks, and comet-making, and many more. Kids will receive Lunar Sample Bags (first ~200) at the door. And we’ll have raffles and prizes throughout the day.

Some of our annual exhibitors have been:  The Moon Society, Dallas Mars Society, the University of North Texas, and the UTA Planetarium, the Civil Air Patrol, the Fort Worth Astronomical Society, the UT Dallas Center for Space Sciences, Dallas Area Rocket Society, Texas Astronomical Society in Dallas, Museum of Nature & Science, Noble Planetarium, AMSAT/Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, Kelley Miller (Solar System Ambassador), Citizens in Space, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, Monnig Meteorite Gallery, Oklahoma Space Alliance, Dallas Personal Robotics Group, the Heinlein Prize Trust, Exos Aerospace, BoeingTAMU-Commerce Society of Physics Students, AAINTX, Celestron, DFW Lego Users Group, Mad Science of DFW,WeChooseToGo.com, The Secret Science Society, The Nerd Show Online, Sci-Tech Discovery Center, and many others.
